Thiếu VA tiền lâm sàng thuộc mức trầm trọng ở trẻ em < 6 tháng tuổi (32,7%), cao gấp 2-4 lần so với các nhóm tuổi khác. Tỷ lệ trung bình thiếu VA tiền lâm sàng của các nhóm là 12,4% cho 4 vùng sinh thái ở Việt Nam. Nồng độ VA trong sữa mẹ thấp là yếu tố nguy cơ quan trọng gây nên VA huyết thanh của trẻ thấp. Uống viên nang VA có tác dụng tốt làm tăng nồng độ VA huyết thanh, giảm tỷ lệ thiếu VA tiền lâm sàng. Trẻ suy dinh dưỡng thể còm, viêm đường hô hấp trong tháng qua, suy dinh dưỡng thể còi có liên quan ý nghĩa với nồng độ VA huyết thanh thấp.

Serum vitamin A (VA) concentration of children under 5y, milk –VA levels, and some related – risk factors were assessed by using WHOs’ reference, to determine the sub – clinical VA deficiency in 4 ecologicals areas in Vietnam, in order to carry out the methods oriented to liquid the VA deficiency during the next years. The results showed that the prevalence of sub – clinical VA deficiency infants < 6mo was 32,7%, significantly higher (2-4 times, P<0,001) than other group of children. Low VA levels in breast – milk, no received VA capsule during last 6mo, respiratory infectious, wasting and stunting malnutrition are high risk factors related to low serum VA of the children. Increased the coverage rate of VA capsule, supplementation of VA capsule for the children from 3mo olds, for mother immediately after delivered and coutinously one overy 3-4month during lactating period from 3 mo olds, for mother immediately after delivered and continously one every 3 – 4mo during lactating period should be a good solution to eradicate VA deficiency in Vietnam.
