Hiện nay, tình trạng suy dinh dưỡng ở trẻ em, nhất là ở các khu vực miền núi, vùng sâu, vùng xa vẫn là một vấn đề y  tế cần được quan tâm. Mục tiêu của nghiên cứu nhằm đánh giá xu hướng thay đổi giá trị trung bình Z-score của các chỉ số nhân trắc trong các điều tra tình trạng dinh dưỡng ở trẻ em tại Việt Nam từ năm 2003 – 2011. Kết quả cho thấy trong giai đoạn từ năm 2003 – 2011, giá trị trung bình z-score của cân – theo – tuổi liên tục tăng với tốc độ 0,048Z-score/ năm và Z-score của cao-theo-tuổi cũng tăng với tốc độ 0,049Z-score/ năm. Độ lệch chuẩn (SD) của Z-score của cân-theo-tuổi là 1,17Z-score và của cao theo tuổi là 1,48Z-score. Đến năm 2011, giá trị trung bình Z-score của cân-theo-tuổi đạt được -0,76Z-score (95% CI: - 0,79; -0,74), của cao-theo-tuổi đạt -1,07Z-score (95% CI: -1,09; -1,04). Tình trạng dinh dưỡng của trẻ dưới 5 tuổi tại Việt Nam đã được cải thiện. Nên xem xét việc sử dụng giá trị trung bình Z-score của các chỉ số nhân trắc để đánh giá tình trạng dinh dưỡng của trẻ em song song với các tỷ lệ hiện mắc được tính toán phân theo ngưỡng của Z-score.

Nowadays, malnutrition status especially in remote areas is still a public health concern. The study was to evaluate trend of means of Z-score values in nutrition surveys among children under 5 years old in Vietnam from 2003 to 2011. The results indicated that during period from 2003-2011, the means of Z-score of weight-for-age steady increased with velocity of 0.048Z/year and the means of Z-score of height-for-age also increased with velocity of 0.049Z/year. The SD of Z-score of weight-for-age was 1.17Z and height-for-age was 1.48Z. In 2011, the mean of Z-score of weight-for-age was -0,76Z (95%CI: -0.79; -0.74), and height-for-age was -1.07Z (95%CI: -1.09; -1.04). In conclusions, the nutrition status among children under 5 years old in Vietnam has been sustainably improved. The means values from anthropometric indicators should be used to evaluate nutrition status among children together with malnutrition prevalence based on Z-score cut-offs.
