2. Function:

Scientific research; staff training; professional guidance at lower levels; health education and communication and international cooperation on food and food safety and hygiene

3. Mission:

a) Scientific research:

  • Research on the nutritional value of foods used in Vietnamese meals and the health effects of foods.
  • Research on food hygiene, food safety and hygiene in the chemical field.
  • Research and propose solutions to ensure food hygiene and safety.
  • Application and development of food chemical testing techniques for nutrition and food safety research.

b) Training:

  • Continuous training, supplementary training, and information updates for food and food safety lecturers at universities, colleges, high schools, and staff working in nutrition, food, and food safety of units in the northern region.
  • Cooperate with universities, colleges, medical and pharmaceutical high schools to provide postgraduate, undergraduate, technical training and other types of training on food and food hygiene and safety according to the provisions of law.
  • Training on demand in food chemistry.

c) Deployment activities and services to meet social needs:

  • Testing of domestically processed or imported foods; state inspection of food hygiene and safety for imported foods; monitoring of food poisoning; consulting on food hygiene and safety testing techniques.
  • Participate in developing regulations, rules and laws related to the food sector; participate in developing food quality standards in the Vietnamese diet.

d) Line direction:

  • Urge, inspect, supervise and evaluate the implementation of technical expertise for the food safety and hygiene testing system and programs and projects on food safety and hygiene testing.

d) Communication:

  • Coordinate with relevant agencies and units to develop content, forms and methods of communication and education on food safety and hygiene.
  • Coordinate with other sectors in communication and education work, carry out social mobilization to effectively implement food hygiene and safety work.

e) International cooperation:

  • Cooperate with scientific research agencies, international organizations, governmental and non-governmental organizations in the region and around the world in accordance with the law to conduct scientific research and apply scientific achievements in the field of food hygiene and safety.
  • Cooperate in scientific research and implement projects related to food safety and hygiene in the region and around the world.
