Để đánh giá khẩu phần thực tế và tình trạng dinh dưỡng của nữ vị thành niên, tác giả đã tiến hành nghiên cứu trên 1.202 nữ học sinh 11-18 tuổi của các trường trung học cơ sở và trung học phổ thông Duy Tiên (Hà Nam). Kết quả cho thấy:
1. Mức tiêu thụ lương thực thực phẩm của đối tượng nghiên cứu, đặc biệt là nhóm vị thành niên sớm không đáp ứng được nhu cầu khuyến cáo của Viện Dinh dưỡng cả về số lượng và chất lượng khẩu phần.
2. Tình trạng nhân trắc dinh dưỡng thấp hơn nhiều so với quần thể NCHS; 21,1% gầy còm; 33,7% thấp còi. Các tỷ lệ này tăng cao hơn trong nhóm vị thành niên sớm; Tỷ lệ thừa cân không đáng kể (0,4%)."
3. Sự phát triển và hoàn thiện phát triển giới tính muộn (tuổi bắt đầu có kinh trung bình 14,4 ± 1,04; hầu hết vị thành niên sớm chưa có các dấu hiệu phát triển giới tính thứ phát; 11,8% vị thành niên muộn chưa phát triển tuyến vú và 4,2% chưa phát triển lông mu).Sự tăng trưởng thể lực kém và chậm phát triển các đặc điểm giới tính thứ phát phản ánh hậu quả của chế độ dinh dưỡng không đáp ứng được nhu cầu tăng trưởng và phát triển của lứa tuổi này.
An assessment of the current food intake and nutritional status among adolescent girls was carried out on 1202 female students at secondary and high schools in Duy Tien (Ha Nam province). The results have shown that:
1. Food consumption of the female adolescent students, especially of the younger group, did not meet the requirements recommended by the National Institute of Nutrition, in term of both quantity and quality.
2. Their nutritional anthropometric measurements were much lower in comparison with the NCHS reference population; the prevalence of underweight and stunting among them was 21.1% and 33.7%, respectively. Those rates were higher in the younger adolescent group. The prevalence of overweight was minor (0.4%).
3. The development and completion of maturity were delayed (average menarche age was 14.4 ± 1.04; Signs of secondary sexual features had not appeared in almost all of younger adolescents, while the prevalence of older adolescents with no signs of the developed breasts and pubic hair was up to 11.8% and 4.2%, respectively). The retarded physical growth and delayed development of the secondary sex features among the study subjects reflected the consequences of diet not meeting with the needs of growth and development during the adolescent period.
