Đề tài được thực hiện tại các Trung tâm Bảo trợ Xã hội 15 tỉnh thành phố phía Bắc nhằm mục tiêu bước đầu mô tả thực trạng dinh dưỡng trẻ em và một số yếu tố nguy cơ.
Phương pháp: Đánh giá tình trạng dinh dưỡng bằng các chỉ tiêu nhân trắc ở trẻ em và phỏng vấn các cô nuôi dạy trẻ và nhân viên nhà bếp.
Kết quả cho thấy: Ở tất cả các nhóm tuổi đều gặp các thể thiếu dinh dưỡng. Tuổi của trẻ càng tăng thì tỷ lệ thiếu dinh dưỡng càng cao. Tất cả các nhóm tuổi đều gặp trẻ thiếu dinh dưỡng độ 1 và 2. Đã xác định được mối liên quan giữa trình độ học vấn của các cô nuôi dạy trẻ với tình trạng thiếu dinh dưỡng nhẹ cân (p<0,05) và thấp chiều cao (p<0,01). Khẩu phần ăn hàng ngày của trẻ tại các Trung tâm còn thiếu về số lượng và mất cân đối về chất lượng có thể do định mức kinh phí thấp. Thực hành VSATTP nhất là thực hành bàn tay sạch ở các cô nuôi trẻ và nhân viên nhà bếp còn nhiều bất cập. Tuy nhiên chưa tìm thấy mối liên quan có ý nghĩa giữa khẩu phần ăn và thực hành vệ sinh với tình trạng thiếu dinh dưỡng.

Abstract:
The study was conducted in Social Protection and Support Centers of 15 Northern provinces aiming at describing the current nutritional situation of the children and some risk factors.
Methods: Nutritional status of the children was assessed by anthropometric indicators and the centers’ care givers and cooks were interviewed.
Results: Malnutrition of all kinds was observed in all age groups. There is an association between educational level of the care givers and child underweight (p<0.05) and stunting (p<0.01). Food intake of the children at the centers was insufficient in term of both quality and quality, probably due to poor allowances. Food hygiene practices, particularly “clean hands” practices of the caregivers and cooks were not as good sa required. However, no significant association has been found between food intake, hygiene practices and malnutrition.
