Tỷ lệ thừa cân (TC), béo phì (BP) ở trẻ em (TE) đang tăng lên nhanh chóng ở các thành phố lớn ở Việt Nam, trong đó có Hải Phòng. Tuy nhiên, các nghiên cứu về TC, BP của trẻ em tiểu học tại Hải Phòng cũng như các yếu tố ảnh hưởng còn chưa đầy đủ.

Mục tiêu: (1) Xác định mối liên quan của chế độ ăn (CĐA) và hoạt động thể lực (HĐTL) đến TC, BP của TE tại một số trường tiểu học tại Hải Phòng, (2) Tìm hiểu ảnh hưởng của một số yếu tố kinh tế xã hội (SES) hộ gia đình lên mối liên quan của CĐA và HĐTL với TC, BP ở trẻ.

Phương pháp: Nghiên cứu mô tả cắt ngang có phân tích.

Kết quả: Tỷ lệ TC, BP của trẻ lần lượt là 16,8% và 14,7%. Trẻ tiêu thụ nước giải khát và các thực phẩm giàu đường/mật có nguy cơ TC-BP tăng 2-6 lần (p<0,001). Tiêu thụ thực phẩm giàu chất béo và tinh bột của trẻ ở những gia đình có SES thấp có thể làm tăng nguy cơ TC-BP. Trẻ không đạt khuyến nghị về hoạt động tĩnh tại (HĐTT) có nguy cơ TC-BP cao gấp 2,4 lần so với những trẻ đạt khuyến nghị. Giới tính nam, việc sử dụng máy vi tính và thời gian HĐTT làm tăng nguy cơ TC-BP của trẻ ở các gia đình ở mọi điều kiện SES.

Childhood overweight and obesity are rising rapidly in Vietnam. It is more evident in the major cities such as Hai Phong City. However, studies on this issue and the risk factors in Hai Phong City are not sufficient.

Objective: (1) To determine the associations between diet and physical activity (PA) and development of childhood overweight and obesity in some primary schools in Hai Phong City, (2) To determine the impact of socio-economic status (SES) on the relationships between diet and PA and childhood overweight and obesity.

Methodology: A crosssectional study was conducted on 1,460 primary school children to collect anthropometric data and 292 children to collect diet, PA and SES data.

Results: The prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity was 16.8% and 14.7%, respectively. Consumption of soft drinks and sugary foods may increase the probability of being overweight and obese in children from 2 to 6 odds (p<0.001). Consumption of carbohydrates and fat in children who lived in families with low SES may increase risks for overweight and obesity in children. Children who spent more than 120 minutes per day for sedentary activity may have 2.4 odds higher for being overweight and obese than those who did not. In households at any SES level, gender of children, access to computer and participation in sedentary activities are risk factors for childhood overweight and obesity.
