Nghiên cứu phát triển thể lực và tình trạng dinh dưỡng của trẻ em theo chiều dọc đã được triển khai tại 2 quận nội thành Hà Nội (Hai Bà Trưng và Hoàn Kiếm). Với mục đích tìm hiểu về tình hình phát triển thể lực, tình trạng dinh dưỡng (TTDD) của những trẻ bị suy dinh dưỡng (SDD) thấp còi trong 2 năm đầu của cuộc sống, các tác giả đã theo dõi 300 trẻ sinh ra trong những năm đầu của thập kỷ 1990 và theo dõi chiều dọc từ sơ sinh đến 17 tuổi. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy trẻ bị SDD (chiều cao/tuổi) rất sớm ngày tháng thứ nhất. Tỷ lệ SDD thấp còi ở năm thứ 2 chiều cao thấp hơn những trẻ suy dinh dưỡng một cách có ý nghĩa trong cả giai đoạn từ sơ sinh đến 17 tuổi. Mức tăng chiều cao của những trẻ SDD trong 2 năm đầu thấp hơn những trẻ khác một cách có ý nghĩa; Trong giai đoạn dậy thì và và trước dậy thì (9-13 tuổi) nhóm trẻ không SDD phát triển chiều cao nhanh hơn, song giai đoạn sau dậy thì (14-17 tuổi) những trẻ bị SDD khi nhỏ lại có xu hướng đuổi kịp phát triển chiều cao.

Abstract:
A longitudinal study on physical growth and nutritional status of children was carried out in 2 districts (Hoan Kiem and Hai Ba Trung) in Hanoi city. The objective of the study was to investigate the physical growth, nutritional status of the stunted children in early age, about 300 newborns during the first years of the 1990¢s were followed up from birth to 17 years old. The results of the study showed that the growth retardation of the followed-up children occurred early during childhood from the first month of life. The period of intensive growth retardation was observed during the second year (at 21 months of age: 59,4% of males and 59,3% of females were stunted). It was observed that height of the stunted children was significantly shorter than their non-stunted peers over the period from birth to 17 years old. The height velocity of the stunted children during the first 2 years was lower compared to others; the non-stunted children during the pre-puberty and puberty period (9-13 years of age) grew faster in height. Nevertheless, after the peak height velocity 914-17 years old), the stunted children gained in height faster than the non-stunted ones go to the age of 17 years; the indicated a compensation for the growth deficit of stunted children during childhood.
