In addition to the goal of equipping basic nutritional knowledge, providing knowledge about therapeutic nutrition, the course for the first time applies theoretical teaching combined with direct practice on specific patient cases on treatment with specific nutritional interventions for some common diseases today. At the same time, providing knowledge and practice on how to organize, manage and supervise the activities of the hospital's nutrition department for trainees.
The lecturers - who are leading experts in the field of nutrition, therapeutic nutrition and food hygiene and safety, currently working at the Institute of Nutrition, Ministry of Health, Central Hospitals, have transferred knowledge and practical experience to the students during 4 weeks of theory (Studying at Soc Trang Provincial Medical College), 8 weeks of practice at Soc Trang Provincial General Hospital.
Summarizing the training course, student Nguyen Ngoc Hung Linh, currently a lecturer at Soc Trang Medical College, shared about the course as follows:
Nutrition is an indispensable need for everyone. Especially for patients, that need is even more urgent. For each type of disease, patients need to be provided with a different diet. Therefore, proper and adequate nutrition plays a very important role in improving the condition of the disease, maintaining good health and preventing diseases caused by malnutrition or excess. However, the application of nutrition in the treatment and care of patients in Soc Trang province still faces many difficulties and obstacles. For that reason, the Board of Directors of the Department of Health has directed the Soc Trang Provincial Medical College to coordinate with the National Institute of Nutrition to organize a clinical nutrition training course for medical examination and treatment facilities. Thanks to that, the course has helped us gain more new knowledge as well as new skills on: basic nutrition, nutritional components in food, building rations, establishing nutritional care procedures for each disease, how to organize and build a model of the nutrition department in the hospital, etc. to be able to meet the standards stipulated in Circular 08/2011/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health guiding nutrition and dietetics in hospitals.
Over the past time, under the dedicated and enthusiastic guidance of our teachers, we feel like we have matured after each lecture. From the first theoretical lessons, we were still shy and passive in discussing nutritional issues, now we can boldly discuss and express our opinions; from the practical lessons, we did not know how to learn about the nutritional issues of patients, now we can communicate with patients ourselves, explore their nutritional issues and help them build a nutritional regimen suitable for their medical condition; And finally, we come from many different units, strangers, different in age, profession, but through the class we met, coordinated with each other to practice, work in groups, contribute to building a nutrition model together... thanks to that, we are closer, understand each other better, unite with each other more and importantly, from now on we can share with each other, learn from each other practical experiences in building a nutrition department to maximize the role of nutrition in treatment and disease prevention.
And today, after 3 months of studying and working with teachers from the Institute of Nutrition and colleagues from different facilities, I, on behalf of the students, would like to express my sincere thanks to the leaders of the Department of Health and the Board of Directors of the School of Nutrition for creating favorable conditions and support throughout the course. We would also like to sincerely thank the teachers for traveling from Hanoi to here to impart new and useful knowledge to us. In particular, we would like to express our deep gratitude to the group of lecturers of the Institute of Nutrition who have provided us with not only knowledge and skills but also enthusiasm to improve the quality of clinical nutrition at medical examination and treatment facilities.
