The Nutrition Policy and Social Mobilization Sub-project (hereinafter referred to as the nutrition sub-project) is part of the Health and Nutrition Policy Support Project, a UNICEF-funded health and nutrition cooperation program in the 2006-2010 cooperation cycle. This sub-project includes activities to support the Ministry of Health in developing a national nutrition policy to improve and enhance the nutritional status and health of the people.

The Nutrition Policy and Social Advocacy sub-project (abbreviated as the nutrition sub-project) belongs to the Health and Nutrition Policy Support Project, a cooperation program on Health and Nutrition sponsored by UNICEF in the cooperation cycle 2006-2010. This sub-project includes activities to support the Ministry of Health in developing a national nutrition policy to improve and enhance the nutritional status and health of the people.

In the current cycle 2006-2010, the Nutrition Subproject continues to focus on supporting the development and implementation of appropriate strategies and policies on health care and nutrition for children and mothers, improving the quality and availability of data on the nutritional status of mothers and children; disseminating and effectively using nutrition surveillance data to develop appropriate local response action plans. The Nutrition

Subproject supports the implementation of the following key activities:

- Developing and updating medium and long-term strategies and action plans on nutrition. Strengthening the capacity of central and local officials in developing, using and disseminating communication tools, persuading and advocating for nutrition policies and investments.

- Support the implementation of the Action Plan on Early Childhood Feeding (IYCF) 2006-2010, Decree on the production and distribution of iodized salt, Decree on advertising of milk and nutritious foods for young children.

- Maintain a network to assess the nutritional status of children and women in emergency situations and prepare for situations that may arise.

- Support the implementation of training on IYCF, monitoring iodized salt, combining vitamin A and deworming for children.

- Print and distribute communication materials for grassroots health, provide materials for the IDDCs program, provide vitamin A capsules to maintain the supplementary program for children and postpartum mothers.

- Organize surveys, workshops and training on assessing nutritional status in emergency conditions and principles in nutrition-related response activities.
