2. Functions: Department of applied research on community nutrition, implementing activities in the community to contribute to improving nutritional status, improving people's health in each stage of socio-economic development of Vietnam.
3. Tasks:
3.1. Research on nutritional epidemiology:
- Research on nutritional status, food consumption, nutritional habits, lifestyle and related factors of Vietnamese people in each stage.
- Research on growth, changes in physical fitness in adults, nutritional regimes and some socio-economic factors to make assessments on the impact of nutritional changes in recent decades on the nutritional and physical status of Vietnamese people.
3.2. Research on overweight-obesity, metabolic syndrome: risk factors and prevention solutions
- Research on the current situation of overweight-obesity, metabolic syndrome and intervention solutions based on diet, physical activity, active lifestyle and nutrition education.
- Participate in testing specific products to prevent overweight-obesity and nutrition-related chronic non-communicable diseases.
3.3. Research on maternal and child nutrition:
- Research on the current situation, related factors and intervention solutions to improve the nutritional status of pregnant and lactating mothers.
- Testing some intervention solutions to improve the nutritional status of women of childbearing age, mothers and children.
3.4. Building community monitoring points and developing some techniques for community nutrition work
- Methods and techniques for surveying diets and community survey tools.
- Deploying some rapid testing techniques in the community such as quantifying Hb, Glucose, blood Cholesterol, urine Na, measuring body structure, etc.
- Building a pilot model to monitor and determine the incidence rate and pilot solutions to prevent overweight-obesity, metabolic syndrome and control risk factors of some non-communicable diseases related to nutrition; improve the nutritional status of mothers and children.
- Participate in training, communication and education and guidance work in the specialized field. Strengthen domestic and international cooperation to develop expertise.
