A case-control study was carried out in 226 dead newborns in 2004 and 227 alive infants born in the period from 1st January 2004 to 31st December 2004 (matched by sex, age, and location with the dead newborns) in 232 communes of Hanoi. The clinical trial was conducted in 32 patients at ICU of Bach Mai hospital. They were given enteral feeding with locally available food with the energy intake of 1,800 Kcal/person/day. The results showed that 59.4% of the patients gained in weight with the average weight gain of 0.3 kg (0.5 kg for malnourished patients), albumin level increased by 56.3%, total protein increased by 68.8% (p<0,05).

A Knowledge-Practice–Coverage (KPC) baseline survey has been conducted in 6 project 6 IFEN II project provinces and one commune of Ha Tay aimed to gather information on breastfeeding and child feeding/care knowledge and practices. The results showed: The rate of mother gave breastfeeding to the child before 1 hour after birth among 6 project provinces was 45.8% in average, lower than that in Ha Tay 2006, 69.4%.

After examining bone density by ALOKA machine (Japan), 259 osteophenia women at the age of 40 – 65 were selected for the control group. A cross-sectional study was carried out at the end of 2005 to assess the nutritional status in children 11-14 years old in Binh Luc district, Ha Nam province. Body weight, height of 2671 children (male/female= 50.6%/49.4%) were collected and compared with those of Vietnamese children of the same age and gender in 2 previous periods: before 1975 and between 1981‑1985.
This article aims to introduce the present knowledge on the role of sprinkles in control of child micronutrient deficiency and malnutrition. Micronutrient deficiencies are found to be often by occurred very early at the 3rd-4th months of the child life and very common in the age group of 6-24 months.
