The Vietnam – Netherlands Nutrition project implemented in the 10 disadvantaged provinces in Vietnam aims for capacity building of nutrition staff at all levels. This specific study is part of the final evaluation of the project to evaluate the project’s results in improving capacity at grass-root level.
Reinforcing capacity and effectiveness of the nutrition service network in both community and health care facilities is one of the six important objectives of the national nutrition strategy (NNS) for 2011 – 2020, with a vision toward 2030. A cross-sectional description study was carried out to assess the capacity building for the implementation of the NNS.

A cross -sectional study was conducted in 1217 subjects in Hai Duong city to determine the rate of overweight/ obesity and blood lipid disorders among overweight/ obesity targets ageds 30-59. The subjects with BMI ≥ 25 voluntarily participated in the study. Their total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-C, LDL-C were identified to determine the rate of blood lipid disorders in obese people.

The study was conducted on September 2007 in 2100 school children in 4 primary schools and middle-schools in Soc Son district, Hanoi. Objective to assess nutritional status of school children 6-14 years old and related factors.
The study was carried out in over six months on 450 children from 7-8 years old in three primary schools in Yen Phong District, Bac Ninh Province. 120 subjects aged 30-60 years old with abnormal blood lipid indicators received 4 capsules of garlic-folate/day for 12 weeks (3 months). The results indicate that the intervention group has some positive results in lipid indicators: significant reduction of total cholesterol, and LDL cholesterol, compared to that at the beginning of the study and with the control group; trend of reduction of triglyceride and HDL-cholesterol was observed, but not significantly.
